China's top legislature will ratify a United Nations convention on the rights of disabled people.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC),the country's top legislature, on Tuesday started to review a motion by the State Council, China's Cabinet, to approve the convention.

The convention was passed by the 61st General Assembly of the UN on December 13, 2006.

The NPC Foreign Affairs Committee supported the approval saying the convention complied with the basic principles of China's laws and practice and the approval would benefit the disabled people and enhance social justice.
