ROK, Japan to Resume Joint History Research
Adjust font size:

South Korean and Japanese scholars will resume joint research of the history in June after a two-year suspension, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said on Friday.

According to Yonhap, the second-term South Korea-Japan joint history research committee will convene a meeting on June 23 in Japan to discuss the future path of their activities.

The committee will be composed of 17 historians from each side and decide items for joint history research after plenary meetings.

Cho Kwang, professor of Korea University in Seoul and Yasushi Toriumi, an honorary professor of Tokyo University, will jointly lead the committee.

South Korea and Japan launched the first-term joint history research committee in 2002 based on an agreement reached the previous year between their leaders. In 2005, the two sides agreed to continue their joint research after the first-term committee finished its research.

However, the two countries have failed to launch the second-term joint history research committee during the past two years.
