Strong quake hits eastern Indonesia

An earthquake with magnitude of 6.0 rocked eastern parts of Indonesia on Wednesday morning, the country's meteorology agency said in Jakarta.

The quake jolted at 00:31 Jakarta time (1731GMT Tuesday) with epicenter at 40 kilometers northwest Ruteng town of East Nusa Tenggara Province and at 30 kilometers under sea bed, an official of the agency Anas Fauzi told Xinhua. Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates meet that cause frequent volcanic movements.
