Russian, US presidents call for fight against nuclear terrorism
Adjust font size:

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his US counterpart George W. Bush on Tuesday called on the international community to enhance cooperation on nuclear non- proliferation and strive to eradicate nuclear terrorism.

In a joint letter to an international conference held in Spanish capital Madrid on the fight against nuclear terrorism, the two presidents appreciated the participation of member states in a nuclear non-proliferation initiative, Itar-Tass news agency reported.

More than 70 countries have accepted the initiative that was kicked off by President Bush and then Russian President Vladimir Putin in July 15, 2006.

The plan stressed that measures must be taken to prevent terrorists from obtaining, transporting and making use of nuclear and radical materials, and from attacking nuclear facilities.
