A US helicopter bombarded a house in a village in the Salahudin province early on Friday, killing eight family members, a provincial security source said.

"A US helicopter struck a house in a village near the town of Dowr after 2:00 a.m. (2300 GMT Thursday), killing five men and three women from one family," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

A child from the family was wounded by the attack which totally destroyed the house, the source said.

The US military has no immediate comment.
