Adjust font size:

An American soldier died of wounds sustained from a roadside bomb explosion that left two others injured in the Iraqi capital, the U.S. military said on Sunday.

The incident occurred at approximately on Saturday noon when the soldiers' vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in northern Baghdad, wounding three soldiers aboard, a U.S. military statement said.

The wounded soldiers were immediately evacuated to a military medical facility where one of them later died due to his fatal wounds, the statement said.

The name of the deceased soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

About 4,193 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
