In the mood for Christmas
Adjust font size:

On New Year's Eve, Xintiandi's traditional gala - the Xintiandi Countdown Party - will be held at Taipingqiao Lake. The party will feature singing and dancing performances from Asian icons.

From December 13 to 28, anyone who spends a combined total of 500 yuan (US$73) with any two or more Xintiandi or Corporate Avenue tenants, along with a cash donation of 50 yuan, can receive a ticket to the Countdown Party. All donations will go to the Shanghai Youth Development Foundation for children in need.

At Shanghai Times Square on Huaihai Road M., an art exhibition will raise the curtain on Christmas celebrations of this year. Italian artist Gigi Rigamonti will also present his fabulous "Il Tango" exhibition.

A stunning selection of 26 mannequins in different patterns and costumes, all shipped from Italy and housed in a dedicated 180-square-meter area of the shopping mall, will create a sparkling Christmas display.

The main theme of "Il Tango" will be the chromatic details of faces and scene costumes, enabling visitors to feel its sensational lightness.

Costumes are specifically tailored on each mannequin to highlight its movements and underline its shape, posture and looks.

Two years ago Rigamonti found his inspiration for the artworks in Jerome Robbins' classic musical "West Side Story." The new mannequins in the "Il Tango" collection recreate memorable scenes from the film and illustrate a fresh creative attempt in installation art.

In addition to the exhibition, professional dancers will also stage a tango show and performers from Kids' Gallery and YK Pao School will present swinging Christmas singing and dancing.

Cathy Hau, deputy general manager of Shanghai Times Square, says it is the second time they have cooperated with Rigamonti whose "Il Circo" exhibition last year was highly acclaimed.
