Adjust font size:

A new IC card that can be used for public transportation in both Beijing and Tianjin is now on sale in Tianjin.

The new card combines the functions of the current Beijing IC card and the Tianjin IC card. In Beijing, card holders can enjoy a 60 discount off one-yuan bus tickets and two-yuan subway tickets. Passengers with the card can also receive a five percent discount on all Tianjin buses and light rails, as well as 10 percent off Tianjian subway tickets, the Tianjin Daily reports.

The card can also be used in some cinemas, pharmacies and supermarkets, and can even pay for taxi fares.

The card is especially convenient for those who travel frequently between Beijing and Tianjin. During the Olympic Games, visitors who want to watch Olympic events and sightsee in both cities will also share in the convenience, the report says.

Tianjin residents can buy the card in some post offices or call 12319 for details.

The card will be available in Beijing on August 15, but residents can call 88087733 to get information in advance.
