Argentina names Olympic hockey team

The coach of the Argentine women's hockey Gabriel Minadeo presented Monday the list of 16 players who will compete in the Beijing Olympic Games.

There are no surprise on the list and Minadeo combines the experience of Luciana Aymar and Magdalena Aicega with the youth of Carla Rebecchi and Gisele Kanevsky. Silvina D'Elia, Gabriela Aguirre and Agustina Bouza are the only players on the new roster that recently won the Champions Trophy in Mencheglabdach.

"The Lioness" seek the gold medal in Beijing because they won silver in Sydney 2000 and bronze in Athens 2004.

The team will travel on June 13 to the Netherlands to play three friendly games against the host on June 16, 19 and 21 and later it will travel to China where they will compete in Group B against Germany, the United States, England, Japan and New Zealand.

Team:

Goalkeepers: Paola Vukojicic and Belen Succi

Defense: Magdalena Aicega, Mercedes Margalot, Mariana Rossi, Noel Barrionuevo and Gisele Kanevsky.

Midfielders: Claudia Burkart, Luciana Aymar, Marine Russo and Mariana Gonzalez Oliva.

Forwards: Soledad Garcia, Alejandra Gulla, Maria de la Paz Hernandez, Carla Rebecchi and Rosario Luchetti.
