Ukrainian weightlifter Igor Razoronov has been expelled from the Beijing Olympics after failing a doping test, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Ukrainian tested positive for the steroid nandrolone after finishing sixth in the 105-kilogram division Monday, the IOC said in a statement.

The IOC asked the international weightlifting federation to adjust the competition results and consider any further sanctions. Razoronov faces a two-year ban from the sport.

Razoronov was the sixth athlete caught for doping during the Aug. 8-24 games. Others disqualified for doping during the games were Greek hurdler Fani Halkia, DPR Korean shooter Kim Jong Su, Spanish cyclist Isabel Moreno, Vietnamese gymnast Thi Ngan Thuong Do and another Ukrainian, Lyudmila Blonska.

Blonska had been stripped of her heptathlon silver medal and Kim stripped of silver and bronze medals.

Under the IOC anti-doping rules for the Beijing Olympics, testing takes place from July 27 to August 24. Within that period, the IOC systematically performs tests pre and post events. After each event, the IOC systematically carries out tests on the top five athletes plus two at random.

The IOC has carried out more than 4,600 doping tests so far, with the figure expected to surpass 5,000 by the end of the games Sunday night.
