Cairo governor hails 2008 Beijing Olympics

Egypt is glad to see that the 29th Olympic Games will be hosted by the civilized country of China, a senior Egyptian official told Xinhua on Thursday.

Cairo Governor Abdel Azim Wazir made the remarks after the signing ceremony of the Friendship Agreement between China's Shaanxi Province and Egypt's Cairo governorate.

He expressed his confidence that 2008 Beijing Olympics will be totally successful as the audience of Olympics around the world are blessing the Games.

On the ongoing global Olympic torch relay, Wazir condemned the sabotage activities against the relay, noting that sports is an event of peace aiming to bring peace to all the countries around the world.

"People should encourage sports. I hope all the countries in the world can cooperate with each other," the Cairo governor noted.

On Thursday, Visiting Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Shaanxi Province Zhao Leji and Wazir signed the Friendship Agreement between China's Shaanxi Province and Egypt's Cairo governorate.

Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Wu Chunhua also attended the ceremony.
