Tibet prepares for Olympic torch relay
Adjust font size:

The government of China's Tibet Autonomous Region held a meeting Saturday to arrange preparations for the Olympic torch relay on the "Roof of the World."

Tibet's Communist Party chief Zhang Qingli said at the meeting that the social order in Lhasa and other parts of Tibet has resumed normal, after the March 14 riots organized by the Dalai clique.

He, however, warned that grave challenges remain ahead, as the Dalai clique is plotting for new sabotage activities.

He urged all relevant departments to spare no efforts in preparing for the torch relay to ward off any possible mishap.

The global relay of the Beijing Olympic flame officially started at Beijing's Tian'anmen Square on Monday morning.

The flame had already been relayed in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on April 2 and Turkey's Istanbul on April 3. It left St. Petersburg, the third leg of its global journey, on Saturday for London, capital of Britain, to continue its round-the-world relay.

The Beijing Olympic torch is expected to be taken to the top of the Mount Qomolangma (Everest) for the first time in history.
