The "Shield-spear contradiction" is a Chinese idiom. A man of the ancient state of Chu had a spear and a shield for sale. He boasted that his spearwas so good that it could pierce through anything and his shield was so strong that nothing could penetrate it. People challenged him by asking what would happen if his spear was used to piece his shield.
