A rematch between Nick Taylor of the United States and Bas van Erp of the Netherlands played out in the Quad Singles - Open quarterfinal, while Chinese Singles and Doubles players excelled at the Olympic Green Tennis Center on Wednesday, September 10.

No. 3 ranked Taylor beat Athens bronze medalist van Erp 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 in a tight Quad Singles match that lasted two-and-a-quarter hours, ending after Taylor won the tie-break 7-1. It was an emotional win for Taylor, who lost his bronze medal challenge to van Erp at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games.

In other Quad Singles results, Shraga Weinberg of Israel, who had been tipped as a potential challenger to No.1 ranked David Wagner of the United States after beating him in competition earlier this season, lost to Wagner 6-2, 6-2. Athens gold medalist and second seed, Peter Norfolk of Great Britain won 6-0, 6-1 against Kimura Sadahiro of Japan which will see him meeting Taylor in Friday's semifinals, while Wagner will play No. 4 Johan Andersson of Sweden.

World No. 1 and reigning champion Esther Vergeer of the Netherlands continued her winning streak in Women's Singles - Open, easily winning her 346th successive match, beating Katharina Kruger of Germany 6-1, 6-0.

China's Dong Fuli played to an exuberant home crowd in the Women's Singles - Open, while Arlette Racineux of France, who wore a mask covering her mouth, was cheered on by a small but vocal French flag-waving contingent. Racineux was no match for Dong who won 6-0, 6-2, which will see her take on favorite, Vergeer, in the next round.

Another Chinese player, Hu Dandan, had a surprise 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win against the seventh seed Ilanit Fridman of Israel, in the Women's Singles match which lasted two-hours-and-twenty minutes, while the sixth seed Marie-Annick Sevenans of Belgium had a disappointing loss to Beth Arnoult of the United States 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Dong and Hu teamed up in the first round of the Women's Doubles - Open in the afternoon, with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win over Hong Young-suk of the Republic of Korea and compatriot Hwang Myung-hee.

The first day of the Quad Doubles - Open saw Bas van Erp of the Netherlands and Dorrie Timmermans-v Hall fight back from their separate Quad Singles losses in the morning to beat Italy's Giuseppe Polidori and Antonio Raffaele 6-0, 6-2. Boaz Kramer and Shraga Weinberg of Israel beat Swedish pair Johan Andersson and Christer Jansson 6-2, 6-4, which puts the Dutch and Israeli teams in Thursday's semifinals.

Eight second round Men's Singles - Open and nine first round Men's Doubles - Open matches, postponed due to rain, also took place on Wednesday.
