Adjust font size:

Hamzeh Mohammadi of Iran set a new Paralympic Powerlifting record in the Men's 60 kilogram category on Thursday, September 11, lifting 202.5kg at the BUAA Gymnasium.

The previous record was set just minutes earlier by Ayrat Zakiev of Russia, lifting 200kg in his third attempt and shattering the previous record set by Metwaly Ibrahim Mathana of Egypt at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.

Eager to see more records broken, Zakiev stepped up to the bench but made a no-lift in his attempt at 205kg. With the bar loaded at 205.5kg, Mohammadi also tried for another record, but registered a no-lift.

Zakiev took the silver medal, after clean lifts of 187.5, 195 and 200kg. Egypt's Shaban Yehia Ibranim won the bronze, lifting 187.5, 192.5 and 195kg.
