Controller strike causes Spain travel chaos

Stranded passengers walk past empty check-in counter at the Airport of Madrid, Spain, Dec. 3, 2010. Spanish air traffic controllers initiated a lightening strike on Friday, which caused the closure of the airports of Madrid, Mallorca, Minorca and Ibiza, the Canary Islands and in the region of Galicia, as well as causing the closure of all Spanish airspace. Some 2,000 flights had been cancelled and at least 250,000 passengers were stranded. [Xinhua/Chen Haitong]
