Melbourne chosen for 2012 track world championship

Melbourne of Australia was chosen to host the 2012 world track cycling championships, International Cycling Union's (UCI) announced Thursday.

Melbourne, which previously hosted the event in 2004, was chosen during a meeting of the UCI steering committee in Lausanne.

The Australian city is already scheduled to host the world road cycling championship in 2010.

The steering committee also awarded the 2012 BMX world championships to the English city of Birmingham.
