Fourth-seeded Wang Yihan of China fell 21-18, 21-15 to German Juliane Schenk in the women's singles third round of the world badminton championships on Thursday.

The German will in the quarterfinals meet eighth-seeded Pi Hongyan of France, a 21-13, 21-14 winner against 15th-seeded Indonesian Maria Kristin Yulianti.

World number one Zhou Mi of Chinese Hong Kong moved into the quarterfinals with a 21-11, 21-18 win over Japanese Ai Goto.

Fifth-seeded Chinese Xie Xingfang overcame a second game slump to beat Thailand's Salakjit Ponsana 21-16, 14-21, 21-9.

The other women's singles quarter-finalists were Chinese Wang Lin and Lu Lan.

In men's section, Chinese Lin Dan and Peter Gade of Denmark earlier set up a repeat of their Olympic clash when they stormed into the men's singles quarterfinals.

Gade, seeded third, had a 21-11, 21-12 win over Chinese Hong Kong's Yan Kit Chan to continue his record of not having dropped a game in this year's tournament.

Fifth-seeded Lin beat Dicky Palyama 21-11, 21-11 to end the run of the Dutchman who caused a first-round upset by beating China's Bao Chunlai.

Indonesians Taufik Hidayat and Simon Santoso also reached the quarterfinals.
