World No. 1 Wang Yihan from China was knocked out of the Badminton World Championships by Japanese 10th seed Eriko Hirose in the women's singles last 16 round.

Wang, 22, managed to take the first set 22-20, but couldn't match with an aggressive Hirose later, losing the following two sets 16-21, 18-21.

After the one hour and 15 minutes match, the top seed burst into tears in the mixed zone.

"That's all my fault. I was not tough enough in mind and I was too careful in defence," said the top seed who was a member of the Chinese women's team suffering defeat in the final of this year's Uber Cup.

Wang lost the first match in the final of Uber Cup and the Chinese team failed to clinch their seventh consecutive victory in the competition after losing to South Korea 3-1.

Wang blamed herself for the defeat a lot and tried hard to regain her confidence.

"I really want to prove myself at the World Championships," said Wang. "but I failed now. I felt that I still couldn't be as confident as before so that I performed not well. "

Wang's teammate Wang Lin and Wang Xin both advanced into the quarterfinals. The seventh seed Wang Lin is going to face Hirose while the third seed Wang Xin is still waiting for the winner between France's Pi Hongyan and Kim Moon Hi from South Korea.
