Equestrian

Equestrian events made its debut in the 9th Asian Games in New Delhi, India. Men and women riders can compete at the same course.

Dressage

Dressage is also named "Equestrian Ballet". The object of dressage is the development of the horse into a happy athlete through harmonious education. As a result, it makes the horse calm, supple, loose and flexible, but also confident, attentive and keen, thus achieving perfect understanding with his rider. Dressage is held in a 65mx25m course, the rider and the horse perform a set routine of compulsory and freestyle dressage movements within 12 minutes. The scoring is done by judges who evaluate how well the horse executes the moves.

Jumping

Jumping was held in a sand land or grassland with 90mx60m course. A jumping competition is one in which the combination of horse and competitor is tested under various conditions over a course of obstacles. If a competitor makes certain faults, such as knocking down an obstacle, refusing, exceeding the time allowed, etc., he incurs penalties. The best result is 0 penalty. The winner of the competition is the competitor who incurs the least number of penalties.

There are two rounds of this competition.

Round A

Round A is a course of 12 to 15 obstacles including one double and one treble or three doubles. The height of the obstacles may be from 1.40m, to 1.60m. A water jump must be included.

Length: 600m minimum, 800m maximum.

Round B

Round B is over a different course of 10 obstacles. The height of the obstacles may be from 1.40m to 1.70m.

Length: 500m minimum, 600maximum.

Eventing

Eventing consists of three parts: Dressage, Jumping and cross-country test. The cross-country test is the most important part in the eventing tests in principle. Comparatively speaking, the importance of dressage is slighly inferior to jumping. So the routes, obstacles and other conditions of cross-country test and jumping should be set up correspondingly to guarantee proportion described above as much as possible.

The rules for dressage and jumping tests apply for eventing jumping and dressage except where otherwise provided in the rules. The course of it was about 5700m. The obstacles are made of badges, banks, ditches, stone walls and water jumps. During competition the horse's refusal or fall of competitor will be given penalties or elimination.

The winning individual is the competitor with the lowest total of penalty points, after adding together, for each competitor, the penalty points incurred. In any International Event, in the event of equality between two or more competitors, the classification is decided by:

(a) The best cross-country obstacle score including faults at obstacles and time penalties.

(b) If there is still equality, the classification is decided in favor of the competitor whose cross-country time was closest to the optimum time.

(c) If there is still equality, the competitor with the best jumping score (time & obstacles) wins.
