Hockey sport appeared about 4,000 years ago. It is described in ancient Egypt, Persia, Greece and China. The modern game of hockey started from England in 1800s. It became the sport of Olympics in 1908. Women’s hockey was played till 1980, the 22nd Moscow Olympic Games. In the 3rd Tokyo Asian Games, hockey became an official competition sport.

Hockey field is rectangular, with the length 91.4m and width 55m.

A maximum of eleven players from each team take part in play at any particular time during the match. Each team has a goalkeeper on the field or plays only with field players. Players on the field must hold their stick and not use it in a dangerous way. A match consists of two periods of 35 minutes and a half-time interval of 5 minutes. A goal is scored when the ball is played within the circle by an attacker and does not travel outside the circle before passing completely over the goal-line and under the cross-bar.
