Volleyball

Volleyball was invented by William Morgen in 1895 in US. After half a century in Tokyo 1964, men and women's volleyball were contested at the Olympics at the same time. It was a medal sport since the 3rd Asian Games in Tokyo, 1958.

The playing area includes the playing court and the free zone. The playing court is rectangle measuring 18mx9m, surrounded by the free zone which is 3m wide on all sides. The free playing space shall measure a minimum of 7m in height from the playing surface. The net height for men is 2.43m and 2.24m for women.

Volleyball is a team event, with each team 12 players, onlysix of them play on the court and the othersix as substitutions. The match is planed to be holdfive sets, the one winsthree sets wins the match. The match adopts the ball-score system. The team who scores a point also get the serve chance, and the players adjust their position in order in regulated-clock way. A set (except the deciding, 5th set) is won by the team which first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of 2 points. In the case of a 24-24 tie, play is continued. In the case of a 2-2 tie, the deciding set (5th set) is played to 15 points with a minimum lead oftwo points.

Beach Volleyball

Beach volleyball first appeared in the early 1920s in Santa Monica, California. It was intended as family fun. Only on the 100th anniversary of Olympics in 1996, beach volleyball was debuted. It acted as a medal sport in the 13th Asian Games in 1998, Bangkok.

The playing court is 16m long and 8m wide, with a 5m wide free zone. The free playing space shall measure a minimum 12.5m in height from the playing surface. The beach shall full of soft sand with minimum 40cm deep. The net height is 2.43m for men and 2.24m for women.

Beach Volleyball is a sport played by two teams of two players each on a sand court divided by a net. The object of the game is to send the ball over the net in order to ground it on the opponent's court, and to prevent the same effort by the opponent. The match is won by the team that wins two sets. In the case of a 1-1 tie, the deciding set (the 3rd) is played to 15 points with a minimum lead of 2 points. A set (except the deciding 3rd set) is won by the team that first scores 21 points with a minimum lead of two points. In the case of a 20-20 tie, play is continued until a two-point lead is reached (22-20, 23-21 etc).
