The 16th Asian Games Torch Relay finished its tour in the coastal city of Shantou on Thursday (October 21).

Compared with ring routes in previous legs in Guangdong, the route in Shantou was almost straight along the coast.

Situated in the southeast of Guangdong and adjacent to the South China Sea, Shantou boasts a long history of foreign trade and is known as a "trading port of over one hundred years". It was opened up in 1861 and designated as one of the first four Special Economic Zones in China in 1981.

On Friday, the Torch Relay will continue in Chaozhou, a famous hometown of overseas Chinese.
