China claimed its seventh and eighth gold in Asian Games diving on Thursday as it closed in on repeating its sweep of the event for the second straight Asiad.

The diving juggernaut kicked off the day with 14-year-old Hu Yadan winning the women's 10m platform title, while Olympic champion He Chong won the men's 3m springboard.

"Today I performed well and better than I did in training," Hu said.

"In the fourth round I got very nervous because Wang Hao put in a good dive, so I didn't perform as well," she said of her teammate, who won the silver medal.

The 1.45m tall (four-foot-seven-inch) Hu surprised the world with her dexterity when she won a diving Grand Prix event in Madrid last year and looks to be a strong contender at the 2012 London Olympics.

Malaysia's Rinong Pandelela won the bronze.

China remains on target to bag all 10 gold medals on offer.

By winning the 3m springboard, He not only defended his 2006 Asiad title but also picked up his second gold at the Guangzhou Games after earlier winning the 3m synchronized.

He was followed by teammate Luo Yutong and Malaysian Ken Nee Yeoh.

Malaysia has won a record eight medals in the event in Guangzhou - all silver and bronze - the best diving haul won at an Asiad by a nation other than China since China joined the Asian Games in 1974.
