The Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, in cooperation with the FISU International Education Centre (FISU IEC), has compiled a glossary for the 2013 Summer Universiade based on the official terminology of the 27th World University Summer Games.
The glossary is a collection of specialised vocabulary with detailed definitions in English and Russian. The terminology pertains to the organisation and conduct of the 27th World University Summer Games. In addition, the document includes terms and definitions used in the work of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate.
The content of the glossary allows unfamiliar verbiage in Russian and English to be easily ascertained. That will facilitate coordination of the lingo of the Games and contribute to better understanding among employees.
"The terminology is based on the fundamental documents of FISU, the international sports movement, including things specific to Russian. Not knowing these terms would make it difficult to navigate the policies and procedures, response plans and decision-making networks at each work site," said Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, Galina Kupriyanova.
Names and definitions presented by the various activities of the Executive Directorate were used in preparing the document. Since each term is accompanied by definitions in both languages, staff members at the Games will have an easier time dealing with foreign participants.
The finished glossary consists of 50 chapters and includes 920 terms relating to the 50 functional areas of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate. Also included are 80 common terms of the World University Games which will facilitate understanding and applying knowledge.
The Kazan 2013 SU terminology was disseminated in 85 parts and distributed among the heads of the functional areas of the Executive Directorate. As an educational legacy of the Summer Universiade and the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the glossary will be presented to FISU representatives.
