China's world record-holder Liu Zige won the women's 200m butterfly final at the 2013 FINA World Championships on Thursday.

Liu, the 2008 Olympic champion in this event, clocked a time of 2:04.59, the best performance of the year, but still far from her world record, established in October 2009 in a time of 2:01.81.

Roared on by the home crowd at the Palau Sant Jordi, Spain's Mireia Belmote Garcia, Olympic silver medallist in London last year, claimed the silver in 2:04.78. Katinka Hosszu of Hungary grabbed the bronze in 2:05.59.

Liu's teammate Jiao Liuyang finished sixth in 2:06.65.
