Guizhou Renhe kept themselves in contention for progress to the knockout stage of the AFC Champions League after ending Ulsan Hyundai's 14-match undefeated run with a 3-1 triumph in their Group H match on Tuesday.

Ulsan took the lead in the 34th minute when Kim Min-kyun's accurate through ball released Yoo Jun-su, who outpaced the Guizhou defence before sliding the ball between the legs of goalkeeper Zhang Lie and into the net.

However, the Koreans' lead lasted only five minutes as Chen Zijie equalized with his first goal of the night after he had beaten the offside trap.

Seven minutes into the second half Qu Bo put the home side in front before Chen made the points safe with his second goal on 81 minutes as Guizhou claimed their first win in the group.

And with Japan's Kawasaki Frontale beating Australia's Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1, Guizhou are just three points adrift of leaders Ulsan despite remaining at the foot of the group with two games to play.

There was also plenty of drama in Group F as Australia's Central Coast Mariners, which began the day in last place, moved a point clear at the top after it beat Beijing Guo'an 1-0.

Central Coast was indebted to goalkeeper Liam Reddy, who saved a 69th minute penalty by Zhang Xizhe to keep its match against Beijing scoreless before Dutch defender Marcel Seip volleyed home Kim Seung-yong's cross four minutes later to break the deadlock. The win saw Central Coast move up to six points.
