Owing to China's policies of economic reform, Shenzhen, situated immediately north of Hong Kong, became the country's first and one of the most successful Special Economic Zones. One of China's major financial centers, Shenzhen is now believed to be one of the fastest growing cities in the world. In 2010, the average housing price there was 16,978 RMB per sq m.
