China's vast territory is dotted with many picturesque towns and villages, which boast cultural relics, distinctive architectures and rustic pleasures.

In an annual competitiveness report, Hong Kong-based China Institute of City Competitiveness (CICC) gives its ranking of the country's 10 most beautiful towns and villages.

Here are the 10 most beautiful towns and villages ranked by CICC:

   Niudachang, Guizhou (贵州牛大场)

Niudachang, located in the southeast of Guizhou Province, is a town in the Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture in the southeastern part of Guizhou. The area has many ethnic minorities, in which Miao and Dong are the main body of the population. With mountains to the north and south, and several rivers crossing the area, the town features mist-covered mountains, gurgling springs, unspoiled forest. Unique customs, and a peaceful life of local residents also render the town addition allure. The must-see attractions around the town include Yuntai Mountain, Shanmu River, Wuyang River and Heichong scenic area.

Shanmu River: 150 yuan (including rafting ticket)

Getting there: You can take coach bus from Shibing County to Niudachang Town.
