Bermuda is a British overseas territory in the North Atlantic Ocean, sitting off the east coast of the United States. Much more famous than its namesake triangle, the affluent territory is recognized as a pre-eminent insurance, reinsurance and financial center in the world. Companies registered in Bermuda can be listed in Luxembourg, Dublin, Vancouver and Hong Kong. HSBC, a global banking and financial services company, is listed on the Bermuda Stock Exchange and has a market capitalization of more than US$330 billion.

Thanks to its low taxation and sounder legal framework, it has become the offshore domicile of a great number of foreign businesses, and many leading international insurance companies are physically based here. It took the 12th spot among the latest rankings of tax havens in the world published by the Tax Justice Network in October this year. As it's easily accessible to all major cities in the United States, Bermuda is especially popular among the United States companies. Almost all large-scaled U.S. businesses have branches or holding companies in Bermuda. It's also the domicile of about one half of the Chinese mainland companies which went public in Hong Kong.
