A graduate of Shanghai International Studies University, Zheng Jie also holds an MBA from America's Rutgers University. After working as a journalist at China Daily, she joined General Motors China, becoming head of public affairs and communications in 2001.

In 2008, Zheng joined the Chrysler Group (China), at which time the group was experiencing restructuring and reorganization bankruptcy protection difficulties. Zheng led the marketing and communication team which helped to Chrysler to rebuild its brand in China, including promoting the company's imported SUV models under its iconic Jeep brand. In November 2011, Zheng was appointed president and general manger of Chrysler China. As a result, Zheng became the first Chinese mainland-born first president of a foreign auto company.
