Chu Lam Yiu started her first fragrances and flavorings company in 1990 in Beijing, and founded Huabao International Holdings in 2004. Through her work, she met her husband, Lam Kwok Man, and the couple subsequently moved to Hong Kong after their marriage. In August 2006, Huabao International went public in Hong Kong, and became one of the largest companies in China focusing on the production and distribution of tobacco flavorings, fragrances and food flavorings.

To date, Huabao has established extraction bases in Shandong, Jiangsu, Yunnan, and Hunan provinces in China, as well as Botswana in South Africa. The company has also established production centers in Shanghai, Yunnan, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Fujian and Hong Kong; and research and development centers in Shanghai, Yunnan and Guangdong provinces in China, as well as overseas centers in Germany. In 2010, Huabao reported sales revenues of HK$2.8 billion, and according to the latest Forbes China Rich List, Chu has a net worth of US$2.2 billion as of October 2011.
