In the final round of the boxing match between Japanese boxer Satoshi Shimizu and his Azeri opponent Magomed Abdulhamidov, Shimizu hurt Abdulhamidov with a body shot and proceeded to send him onto the floor five times. Abdulhamidov injured his leg and couldn't stand up straight. However, the judges still gave out a 22-17 verdict, announcing the victory of Abdulhamidov.

After the Japanese team's appeal against the outcome, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) released a statement saying that the result had been overturned with Shimizu now declared the winner of the match. He then went onto the quarter-finals.
