Luanda in Angola is regarded as the most expensive city in the world. Most of its infrastructure was destroyed in the civil war, and 90 percent of its food needs to be imported, as well as cars and other industrial products. A fast food meal costs US$18.77 pounds, one liter of milk costs US$3.84 and to stay one night in a normal hotel costs US$391. Most readers were unimpressed with Luanda. The city "still shows signs of their civil wars." It has "construction everywhere with signs of basic poverty next to enormous wealth" and it "is trying to find its way back to a grander era."
