A campaign to crack down on pornography started in February in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province and then spread to the whole of China. In April, many ministries released notices saying that they were starting a national campaign to wipe out pornography and clean up the internet. Many celebrities were arrested for whoring, including the famous actor Huang Haibo. The campaign is the strongest in recent years and has achieved short-term improvements.
