Visiting: Beijing
Departure: Daily
Duration: 2 day
Valid: from April to October

Itinerary:

Day 01: Pick up from your hotel around 8:00am and drive to the Mutianyu Great Wall. The Wall is located in the Huairou County, about 75km away from downtown Beijing. Mutianyu Great Wall is well known for its pretty surroundings - dense foresty and the rich grass changing colors with the different seasons of a year. Many travellers choose this section of the Wall mainly due to the fact that Mutianyu Great Wall is less crowded than Badaling Great Wall. Cable car is optional. After hiking at the Mutianyu Great Wall, drive long the mountian road to the trout fishing pond at the foot of the mountain. On the way, you are lucky to pass through a natural village. Stop there for a few minutes taking some pictures. Then continue to drive the angling ponds.

Actually the trout ponds are the breeeding ponds more than the fishing ponds! This area is the famous trout breeding centers in Beijing. The ponds linked to each other are quitely located in a valley at the foot of the mountains. On the top of the mountain, you can see the ruined section of the Jiankou Great Wall snaking on its range. Rainbows inhabit both lakes and streams. The water of the trout ponds here comes from the streams of the mountain. Rainbow Trout like colder running water temperatures. There are two kinds of trout - stocked trout and native trout. The trouts here are stocked trout.

You will get a simple fishing rod with fishing line, baits ( worms, minnows, mealworms, etc.). Fishing the stocked tout is more of entertainment than of prefessional fishing. All the ponds here are full of trouts! Don't stand on the shore! Let's start fishing! When you catch one or two trouts, the local people will weigh the fish. We will pay the fish and get the fish either roasted and sliced raw for your lunch - yummy! The people will roast the fish in front of you. If you are bold enough, you may try a hand-on experience of the fishing roasting. Beside the trout dish, you will have the chance to try many local varieties of foods and wild leafy vegetables. After the later lunch, do a little hiking and stay at the local farmhouse for the night.

Day 02: After simple breakfast, start hiking the Jiankou Great Wall. This is one of the most scenic stretch of Great Wall and most photoable around Beijing. This is the real great wall, not something like touristic Disney-style walls rebuilt to please you. The hike on the Jiankou Great Wall takes about 2-4 hours. After finishing the hike, come to the same trout fishing ponds and again taste the delicious roasted or raw trout dishes for the lunch. Your drinking and talking blends into the natural area and life is so beautiful! Transferred back to your downtown hotel in Beijing.
