Piano recital

Pianist Yin Chengzong presents Peking Opera and Chinese folk music through piano scores. In Red Memories, Yin will play The Picturesque Yimeng Mountain, a suite from the dance drama The Red Detachment of Women. Yin will also perform folk songs from northern Shaanxi province and several Peking Opera selections. Born in 1941 in Xiamen, Fujian province, Yin is acclaimed for his contributions to the

Yellow River Concerto.

Kunqu Opera

The Northern Kunqu Opera House will stage the classic play Fatal Opera. The story is about dramatist Guan Hanqing's fate after he published his controversial work. Kunqu Opera, which originated in Jiangsu province some 500 years ago, blends the elegances of traditional singing and dancing.

Comedic ballet

The legendary Stuttgart Ballet will entertain audiences with its narrative ballet The Taming of the Shrew. Choreographed by John Cranko (1927-1973), the play is based on Shakespeare's comedy of the same title and premiered in 1969. It explores love, the value of life and the destinies of people.

Fusion music

Danish jazz band Ibrahim Electric comprises guitarist Niclas Knudsen, Hammond organ player Jeppe Tuxen and drummer Stefan Pasborg. As one of Europe's most popular jazz bands, Ibrahim Electric fuses traditional jazz with elements of rock 'n' roll and African music.

Animal world

Chen Wei's solo exhibition Dancing in the Castle is divided into two parts. The early series conveys the tranquility and peace of animal world, while the recent works convey the conflict in nature.

Mixed methods

Sun Chu's solo show, Striking/Antiquate, displays his explorations of new perspectives of traditional Chinese art, focusing on colored-ink painting. As a specialist of modern graphic design in China, Sun boasts profound art sense and skills. He experiments with interpreting Western Expressionism, Abstractionism and Aesthetic Deconstruction through Chinese styles.

On the road again

The National Museum, which is currently undergoing expansion and refurbishment, opens its northern wing for the mammoth exhibition Road to Rejuvenation.

With more than 1,150 cultural

relics and more than 980 vintage photos, the exhibition aims to depict Chinese history from 1840 to 2009, organizers say.

Also on show will be about 40 huge murals and oil paintings about major historical figures and events.

Free class for babies

This free class is for babies aged from two to six months. In a well-equipped classroom, babies have the opportunity to try non-competitive gymnastics and play, which are safe and great for building self-esteem.
