Yueyang Tower is an ancient architectural treasure on the shores of Dongting Lake in Yueyang City, Hunan Province. Known as one of four famous Chinese towers, the others are the Tengwang Pavilion in Hubei Province, the Yellow Crane Tower in Jiangxi Province, and the Penglai Pavilion in Shandong Province.

Yueyang Tower was made famous by many Chinese poets who visited and wrote poetry about it and Dongting Lake. Fan Zhongyan in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), made the tower famous with his remarks, which have since then been deeply rooted in Chinese people's minds. "One should first show concern of the state and lastly to enjoy himself" were his most famous words. Chairman Mao also visited this tower and wrote a poem about the tower. His handwriting is even preserved on the wooden boards on the third floor of the tower.
