Fenghuang Ancient Town is adjacent to Dehang Village of Miao minority, Mengdong River of Yongshun and Fanjing Mountain of Guizhou Province. You must pass through this ancient town if you want to go to Huaihua, Jishou and Tongren of Guizhou Province. This ancient town was built in the reign of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty. Fenghuang is often described as the "Pearl of West Hunan Province", the residential place of Miao and Tujia minorities. Strolling through the town, you can see the greenstone-paved streets, wooden buildings by the riverside, or diaojiaolou (stilted wooden houses standing over the water), Chaoyang Palace, Heavenly-King Temple, Dacheng Hall and Longevity Palace. The most recommended scenic spots include Boating on Tuo River, Southern Great Wall, and the former residence of Shen Congwen, a modern Chinese writer and scholar on historical relics.
