Hainan Island is seeing an influx of glitzy, high-end hotels, as luxury brands are hoping to capitalize on the rapid growth of the area. Ever since Hainan's first five-star hotel opened in Haikou in 1995 (the Huandao Tide Hotel), the number of luxury hotel chains has been on the rise. Currently, there are a total of 259 hotels, 20 of which have five-star ratings. With names such as The Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott on the list, the number of five-star hotels are expected to double this year. Over the next five years, that number is expected to triple, reaching 60. Holiday resorts in Haikou, Qionghai, Wanning, Sanya, Lingshui, Wuzhishan and Baoting are complete with sound hotel services, offering tourists a luxurious place to stay no matter where they are on the island.
