Hainan will not give the green light to gambling industry. Hainan official made it clear on March 7 while attending the annual parliamentary session in Beijing.

After the central government's document about promoting the development of Hainan International Tourism Island was released in early January this year, a lot of speculations that gambling industries will land on Hainan came out.

According to Wei Liucheng, the Party chief of Hainan Province, the province is allowed to try some tourist and sports entertainment programs and explore the possibility of developing sports-betting lottery and instant sports lottery.

"This means we're just on the research stage," Wei told reporters at the sidelines of the National People's Congress session. Hainan will not develop gambling industry, he emphasized, adding that sports lottery is different from Macao's gambling industry.

Wei also refuted the speculation that Hainan would bring in Hong Kong's horse racing, saying that horse racing doesn't belong to sports-betting lottery.
