Dang Zhijian, deputy director of the Diqing Prefectural Tourism Bureau, said that the tourists departments will compensate the residents living in the Pudacuo National Park scenic spot.

The compensation ranges from 5,000 yuan RMB to 35,000 yuan RMB per family per year.

Tashi, a resident in the Pudacuo Park, said, "Apart from the compensation, I have been involved in tourist services by serving as a cleaner, with a monthly wage of 1,500 yuan RMB."

Statistics show that 98,400 residents including 13,600 farmers in Diqing Prefecture were involved in the tourism sector in 2009.

Nyima, an official of the Diqing Prefectural Tourism Bureau, said, "Now, Diqing has 2,000 tour guides, including 69 English ones and 100 for other languages. Their average yearly income is 24,000 yuan RMB, and some can earn 100,000 yuan RMB."

Nyima added that once the residents benefit from the tourism sector and know their songs and dance can make money, a triple-win target has been met, namely, economic returns, ecological protection and people's livelihood.
