China Volkssports Association (CVA), a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports or International VolkssportVerband (IVV), is organizing a two-week trek along the Himalayas from China's Tibet to Nepal, from Sep 26 to Oct 11.

It will begin in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet autonomous region, and go through the northern slope of the Himalayas to end at Lumbini in Nepal where Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, was born.

Applications are now open. Already nearly 100 volunteers have signed up to ensure participants' safe journey through the ice-capped mountainous region.

Volkssports first appeared in Europe nearly 30 years ago, with the IVV founded in 1968 to promote Volkssports worldwide. It now has 50 national-association members (one per country) and 24 direct-member clubs.

As a member club in China CVA, known before as Beijing Today Walking Center, introduced Volkssports to China in 2004.

The trek, co-organized by the Embassy of Nepal, the Nepal Tourist Board and Tibet Autonomous Tourism Bureau, is part of celebrations to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China.
