The oldest poplar forest in the world lies in the Mulei county to the east of Gurbantunggut Desert, Xinjiang. It is well known to the world for thousands of postures and original condition of poplar trees. According to the research, this piece of poplar trees has a history of 65 million years. The "ancestral tree" has a diameter of 3.1 meters. It is regarded as the "king of the poplar" in the world. Besides, it still keeps its original state without development. Like an art palace, all sorts of strange shaped poplar trees bring visitors endless surprise.

Travel tips:

It takes about five hours from Urumqi to Mulei poplar forest. Visitors can lodge in different standards around the scenic area. The local gourmet includes Xinjiang big plate of braised chicken, mutton eaten with hands, milk tea and so on.
