The moon worshipping of Dai People, Xinping, Yunnan

The Dai women living in Xinping county, Yunnan prefer wearing a flowery waist belt, thus they are named "Huayao Dai". Among the many traditional customs, the Mid-autumn Day is one of the most important. On the day, family reunion, when the full moon rises, every household would offer moon cakes, fruits, fish, duck and grains on the platform to the moon. They pray for the good harvest.

After the meal, villagers will gather in an open field. Every household brings a big bowl of melon and fruits. A professional man is invited to burn incense sticks and "calls back the spirit of the moon". The lyrics is about the pray to the moon for the blessings of Dai People. The ceremony is quite formal and mysterious.

Other activities: as usual, visitors can enjoy the traditional cultural activities such as teeth-dying, tattoos and religious worship in Damuyu Huayao Dai Culture and Tourism Village.
