Encouraging young talent
Promoting students and young photographers on an international scale has long been an important part of the festival. Aside from open forums presented by famous photographers from China and overseas, each year there is a section dedicated to displaying works by university students and amateurs, providing them with one or two venues to display their works.
At this year's festival there are 47 exhibitions by university and college students.
"We encourage students to take photos of all subjects and use the most advanced concepts and equipment," said Zhang Junhui from Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. "Only on this condition their young imaginations can be fully applied."
For many young photographers and amateurs, who seldom have the opportunity to show their work, the festival provides them with a chance to meet masters in the field and get some personal feedback and advice.
"I have been in applying for such an opportunity for the past three years and this year I'm very lucky," young photographer Xu from Guangxi said with a broad smile.
