A photo exhibit on Chinese traditions, culture and social life opened Wednesday at the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), attracting many UNOG staff and foreign visitors.

Wang Chen, director of China's State Council Information Office (SCIO), gave a brief introduction to the event at the opening ceremony.

He said the exhibit, launched by the SCIO, contains a collection of more than 60 photos. "These photos will show visitors a history of China spanning from the past to today, with a focus on great changes and developments," he said.

As part of the "Experience China in Geneva" cultural program, the photo exhibit aims to present a real China to the world, particularly to those working at the UNOG, foreign diplomats, representatives from international organizations and local people.

On Nov. 24-30, the SCIO will also stage other activities, like cultural performances, a book donation ceremony and a film festival week, to introduce China to the world.

"Experience China" is a series of worldwide cultural activities launched by the SCIO with a view to promoting the world's understanding of China. It has already been carried out in Germany, the United States, South Korea, Israel and Turkey.
