DIY Christmas

The high-end supermarket City'super in the IFC building in Pudong New Area is the city's latest one-stop shop for imported grocery products. And this makes it the ideal destination to stock up on goods and ingredients for your home-cooked Christmas dinner.

In City'super you'll find everything you could possibly want; from fresh turkey and beef, to lamb chops, and even the king of oysters from the Belon River in France. Throw in some foie gras, caviar and champagne and you've got the kind of yuletide feast even the city's top hotels would find hard to match.

The store is also providing helpful recipe suggestions next to each food item on sale, compiled by Superlife Culture Club executive chef Charmaine Cheung. These recipe flyers give ideas for combining seasoning and ingredients.

Hong Kong-based Cheung is renowned as food pioneer for her use of seasonal ingredients to create both innovative and traditional dishes. She flies to Shanghai every month to introduce new recipes to staff at the supermarket's own restaurant, Chez Nous.

And as the name suggests, Chez Nous has a very homely feel to it. Diners can either enjoy the Christmas menu on offer, or can buy their own ingredients first from the supermarket and ask the chef to cook a meal in a style of their choice.

The first choice

For this Christmas, T8's Australian chef Adam Liston has designed a new menu with novel names for familiar dishes. So the asparagus veloute is now known as The First Noel, the poached lobster as Christmas Reds, and the pan-fried halibut as Jingle Bell Rock. For mains, you can choose between the organic turkey breast (Traditions of the Season) or the restaurant's renowned slow-roasted Australian grade 6+ wagyu beef striploin.

For dessert, there is a choice of coconut sorbet with cranberry fizz and crumble, or the valrohna chocolate parfait with nougat and raspberry sorbet.
