Long table banquet, Kaili, Guizhou Province

From the eve of the Chinese Spring Festival to the Lantern Festival (the fifteenth day of the first lunar month), in Xijiang Miao Village in Kaili, Guizhou Province, people holds "The long table banquet" as a unique custom in celebrating the Lunar New Year. The banquet is usually taken place at the local famous "Wind and Rain Bridge". The enthusiastic Miao people welcome guests by singing and setting off firecrackers.

Sour dishes are majority in the banquet, such as sour fish, sour pork, sour bird meat, sour hot pepper, glutinous rice wine and glutinous rice. The mellow wine and the melodious drinking songs make people bathe in great happiness.

One delicacy in the banquet is the chicken porridge. It is one of the delicacies in the festival dishes of Miao people. Dipping chicken pieces into pepper water and drinking the fresh porridge is indeed a real treat.

Tips: Every year from the middle of January to the end of February, the over 20,000 mu (1,333 hectares) wild plum welcomes its most gorgeous flower season.
