A woman of Tibetan ethnic group places mani stones on Jiana Mani Stone Mound in Yushu County, northwest China's Qinghai Province, Jan. 29, 2011. Mani Stone mounds are made up of holy stones (stones carved with the Lamaist six-syllable mantra prayer or other propitious symbols) accumulated by Lamaism believers. The Jiana Mani Stone Mound, which is believed to be the largest mani mound in the world, is piled by some 2.5 billion Mani stones and formed a "stone scripture castle" with a length of 300 meters, a width of 80 meters, a height of 4 meters and a covering area of some 24,000 square meters. Pious believers pile up Mani stones on it and make it "growing up" per year. As the Spring Festival approaches, many people come here to pray for the dead in the Yushu earthquake, and bless for the live. [Xinhua/Wang Bo]
